THE TOWERS FAMILY SAGA
        Episode 99
The detective stood still.
"My kids are warm tonight."
He looked at the consoles.
"I can hold the gate shut."
Robert nodded his thanks.
"You are risking a lot."
"I am just tired of lies,"
the officer said softly.
"Do not make me regret it."
He turned toward the door.
"I will tell the captain
that this place is empty."
Elias watched him leave.
"Can we trust him now?"
"We have to," Robert said.
"We have no other choice."
Minnie checked the logs.
"The council is fuming."
"They are calling for war,"
Dorothy said from the desk.
"I see their encrypted
traffic spiking right now."
"What are they planning?"
Virginia asked, shivering.
"A total site lockdown?"
"Probably worse than that,"
Robert replied, frowning.
"They want us erased now."
"Then we dig in deeper,"
Elias suggested, focused.
"We harden the perimeter."
"We keep the grid alive,"
Robert declared, firm.
"The city is counting on
this power to survive."
"The pressure is rising,"
Minnie noted, eyes wide.
"The system is groaning."
Dorothy took the controls.
"I am dampening the load."
"Keep it steady," Robert
urged, his voice intense.
"We cannot lose the light."
Suddenly, the floor shook.
"What was that?" Virginia
gasped, gripping a table.
"An explosion outside!"
Elias ran to the window.
"They blew the main line!"
Robert cursed under breath.
"They are trying to kill
the connection to us!"
"The lights are fading!"
Dorothy cried out in alarm.
"We are losing the grid!"
Robert grabbed his tools.
"I have to go outside."
"No, it is too dangerous!"
Minnie grabbed his arm.
"They are waiting for you!"
"If I stay, we all die,"
Robert said, pulling free.
"I fix the line, or we
all fall to the darkness."
He grabbed his heavy coat.
"Cover the door, Elias."
"Go," the man replied.
"I will not let them in."
Robert stepped into the
cold, chaotic night air.
Shadows moved in the mist.
He saw the severed wire.
Sparks danced like snakes.
"Found you," he whispered.
He reached for the cable.
A shadow lunged at him.
"Got you, Towers," a voice
sneered from the gloom.
Robert spun around fast.
"Not tonight," he yelled.
He swung his heavy iron.
The drama was at a fever
pitch again.
The life of the city hung
on his next hard move.
