THE TOWERS FAMILY SAGA
Episode 94
Robert slumped against the
cool metal of the server,
his chest heaving for air.
"Are we still breathing?"
he asked with a dry cough.
Minnie crawled from under
the desk, her hair messy.
"We are still here, Robert."
She checked the terminal.
"The upload hit one hundred."
Dorothy wiped soot off her
face, pointing at the wall.
"The whole city has it now."
"Every news station," added
Elias, peering out again.
"The truth is out there."
Virginia rushed to Robert,
tending to his bruised side.
"We need to get you help."
Robert shook his head fast.
"No, the doctors will tell.
We stay inside this shop."
The sirens grew even louder
as police swarmed the yard.
"They are here for the loot,"
Dorothy said, pacing around.
"They want the drive back."
"Let them try," Robert said,
rising to his shaky feet.
"We hold the only copies."
A megaphone blared outside.
"Come out with your hands
up!" Robert walked to the
window.
"We are not criminals!"
he shouted to the street.
"We are the only engineers!"
The crowd of onlookers grew.
People held up their phones.
They had seen the reports.
The shop was a hero site.
"Look at them," Minnie said.
"They are protecting us now."
The police stepped back,
unwilling to risk a riot.
The Enforcer leader was gone.
But the tension remained.
"What is our next move?"
asked Elias, watching them.
"We cannot stay hidden here."
"We rebuild," Robert replied.
"The grid is ours to fix."
"With what tools?" asked
Dorothy, looking at the mess.
"We have the schematics,"
Virginia said, pulling them.
"We have the city's trust."
Robert nodded at the team.
"We start the new network."
"Tonight?" Minnie queried.
"Tonight," Robert affirmed.
"The power is our legacy."
He looked at the front door.
"We open to the public."
"They will swarm the shop."
"Let them," Robert smiled.
"We are the new light now."
The shop began to pulse
with a steady, golden hum.
The era of the old grid
was finally, truly dead.
The Towers stood together.
The city looked on in awe.
Their fight had just begun.
The future was in their
own capable, tired hands.
They were ready to build.
The saga was moving on.
