THE TOWERS FAMILY SAGA
        Episode 88
The utility man left with a
smirk. He looked at their
files with contempt. "All
antiquated," he sneered.
Robert blocked his path.
"You are trespassing," he
said with cold, hard fury.
The man fixed his tie and
glared. "We are the grid.
Remember that when all of
your power vanishes soon."
He walked out. The room
grew silent. Minnie held
her clipboard tight. "He
is bluffing, Robert. They
need a public hearing."
"They need nothing," he
replied. "They control
the switches. They will
cause a blackout and blame
us." Dorothy looked worried.
"If they cut the line, we
will fail. We will be out
of time and our permits
will be voided tonight."
Virginia checked the schem.
"We need a backup source.
Something not on their
grid." Robert stared at
the floor. "We build a
microgrid here. We stop
using their power. If
they want to play dirty,
we go off-grid ourselves."
The shop went quiet. The
interns looked unsure.
"Can we do that?" Elena
asked. "We lack the gear."
Robert spoke with force.
"We build the hardware.
We have the scrap metal
and the wire. We have
the drive. We do not
need them anymore today."
Minnie calculated the cost.
"It will take all night.
It will cost every dime."
Robert looked at his crew.
"Then we spend it all.
We will not let them win."
The team went to work. The
saws roared and sparks
flew. They bypassed the
main line. By dawn, the
shop hummed. It was a
self-made heart. The city
could not touch them.
Robert watched the glow.
The sabotage had failed.
They stood as a power.
