The expansion was real.
The North wall was clear.
White chalk marked the floor.
"Don't look at the cost,"
Robert told the students.
"Look at the tensile
strength." "Look at the
composition." "If the
metallurgy is weak,"
"The whole thing fails."
Elena, a student, looked up.
"But the suppliers say,"
"This grade is the standard."
"Everyone else uses it."
Robert touched the steel.
"Standard is a polite term."
"It means the bare minimum."
"We are not here to avoid,"
"A lawsuit, Elena."
"We are here to support,"
"The structure of the city."
Minnie entered with coffee.
"The city planner is here,"
"At noon for an inspection."
"They want to ensure,"
"The seismic requirements."
"Let them come," he said.
"Everything is documented."
"If they want to see,"
"How a shop should operate,"
"They are in for a lesson."
Dorothy joined them, smiling.
"The stations are wired,"
"Robert. We are ready."
"To start the fabrication,"
"As soon as you say so."
Robert looked at the team.
The fear of being shut down,
Was replaced by the work.
"We start it right now."
"We show them the truth."
"No corporate padding here,"
"Just our own focus."
By the time the inspector,
Walked through the door,
The steel was all aligned.
The inspector stood still,
Looking at the meticulous,
Setup of the entire floor.
"I have seen many sites,"
The inspector admitted.
"But I have not seen one,"
"Organized like this in,"
"A very long time."
"You are doing it right,"
"By the letter of the law."
"The book is the foundation,"
Robert said to him.
The inspector signed off.
Robert felt a quiet peace
as the struggle finally
ended.
The work was the only focus,
and the saga had moved on
from mere survival to
mastery.
They were the architects now,
watching the Pasadena sun
rise over their thriving
workshop. They were moving
forward, unburdened by the
past, building a life that
held fast, piece by honest
piece.
The shop stood as a fortress,
the Towers stood tall,
and their work was finally,
indisputably, the truth.
