THE TOWERS FAMILY SAGA
Episode 163
The days in Pasadena turned
into a blur of intense heat
and a steady shower of
flying sparks, creating an
environment of industry.
Virginia felt the rhythmic
clang of the hammer deep in
her bones, a sensation that
had become a language for
the family. The strikes were
sure, deliberate, and
perfectly timed, each one
contributing to the
emergence of the giant gate
as it took shape under
their skilled hands.
It is quite heavy, she said,
pausing to wipe the sweat
from her brow with a cloth,
the physical toll of the
work grounding her in the
present. But it is truly
beautiful, Robert replied,
nodding with satisfaction
as he welded a corner joint.
The client will be thrilled
with this level of detail;
it is the kind of work that
cements a reputation.
The shop felt alive with a
constant hum of industry
that pushed back against the
summer heat. They often
lost track of the time,
working until the moon was
high and the shop floor was
bathed in silver light.
There was a profound
comfort in the grind; it was
this honest, tangible work
that had acted as their
anchor and saved them. Every
time she picked up the tool,
Virginia felt the strength
of her recovery returning;
her health was steady, and
her mind was clearer than
it had been in years. She
lived for these moments in
the shop, surrounded by the
scent of oil and iron.
They rarely stopped for long
breaks, preferring to eat
lunches right on the
workbench while they planned
the next set of curves and
weld patterns. We are so much
faster than the old days,
Robert said, looking
at the heavy equipment. The
new press makes all the
difference in the world.
Virginia agreed. It is a
blessing to have the right
tools for the job. The iron
gates were now nearly six
feet tall, and they looked
like a masterpiece of art,
rising from the floor like
the spine of their new life.
Barbara managed the schedule
with precision, ensuring
they stayed ahead of the
deadline. She served as the
anchor for the operation,
keeping them moving when
fatigue threatened to slow
their progress. Two more
days, she called out,
checking her tablet. We are
in great shape to finish on
time.
