The shop floor was quiet.
Robert hit the anvil.
"The steel is holding."
"Like the day we began."
Virginia stepped out
from the heavy press.
She looked quite grim.
"Dad, we must talk."
"No corporate games,"
Robert sighed out loud.
"This is not a game,"
she snapped at him now.
"Thorne bought the
supply chain today."
"He hit us while we
were busy being good."
Robert dropped his iron.
"How did you find out?"
"I checked the books."
"He plans to kill us."
Barbara ran inside.
"The bank called us!"
"They want the house!"
Minnie stood very tall.
"I saw the notice too."
"Did you know, Robert?"
Robert paced the floor.
"Thorne is a snake now."
"He found our weakness."
"He found our heart."
Virginia leaned back.
"He thinks we are soft."
"So, what is the plan?"
"We stop being prey."
"We act like Towers."
"You said no more war!"
"I said no more losing."
"Get the gear ready."
"I have a plan, Dad."
"But your health, Vee."
"The enemy is here."
"I will take my pills."
"I will save the shop."
The air felt cold now.
The danger was back.
They were together now.
But the past was alive.
