THE TOWERS FAMILY SAGA
Episode 102
THE SUDDEN TURN
The hospital was chilly.
Robert stood by the bed.
Virginia lay in a haze.
The lumpectomy was done.
The surgeon walked in.
"We got it all, Robert."
"The margins are clear."
Robert let out a breath.
"Thank God," he sobbed.
"She is a fighter, Doc."
"She is," he agreed now.
"But we must be careful."
"Radiation is the path."
"Thirty-five treatments."
Robert nodded his head.
"Whatever it takes, Doc."
Virginia stirred slowly.
Her eyes searched for
the faces she loved now.
"Is it gone?" she asked.
"It is," Robert promised.
"But we have a road."
"I can handle the road,"
she said with a smile.
"I have my family here."
"We will do it together,"
Barbara said, weeping.
"Every single session."
"And the meds?" he asked.
"She will take those,"
the doctor explained to
the family in the room.
"A special medication."
"It stops the return."
"She will not lose hair,"
he added with a grin.
"That is a relief, sis,"
Dorothy said to her now.
"You look great, Vee."
"I feel tired, Dorothy,"
she admitted to them.
"But I am still me."
"You are a Towers,"
Robert said to the room.
"We survive this turn."
"We survive everything."
The machine kept beeping.
The pulse was a rhythm
of hope in the shadows.
They had to be strong.
The Towers would endure.
